    A Note Before You Begin

    These poems were written in the hours when the city goes quiet and the mind does not. Some of them started as notes on a phone, waiting for a bus. Others took a year. Read them in any order. Skip the ones that do not land. A chapbook is a small, generous thing — it asks for twenty minutes, not a commitment.

    Inventory

    Two chairs, one of them broken. A window that faces the wrong direction. The habit of listening for a key in a door that no longer opens for anyone but me. I keep the broken chair. Not for sentiment — for balance. A room with only working things in it looks like a room nobody lives in.

    Weather Report

    They said rain by evening and were wrong again, which I have decided to take personally. All afternoon I arranged my mood around a storm that went somewhere else, to someone else's window, and fell there instead, generously, for hours. I stood in the dry street holding an umbrella like a question nobody had asked me.
